The Secret To Saying The Right Thing To The Right People On Facebook


We’ve all said the wrong thing from time to time, but saying the right thing to the wrong people can really hurt your business on social media. In today’s blog post, I uncover the secret to saying the right thing to the right people on Facebook.

If you’ve been on Facebook for any amount of time and you’ve looked in a lot of the groups that cater to the home based business industry, all you see are links to everyone’s business. I call it a “pitch fest” and it’s pretty annoying, isn’t it?! A long time ago, back in my early network marketing days, one of the trainers at one of our seminars did a really funny demonstration of how NOT to build your business. He called it “throwing up on people”. LOL! It’s funny, and he was really funny, but it’s a serious problem if you’re doing it.

Let me explain it by asking a question. Would you walk into a party and as soon as you’re introduced to someone you’ve never met before say “Hey, I just joined this business. It’s a great business and the products are so good. I’ve already lost 10 pounds in a week.  You should really try it. Can we schedule a time to get together so I can show you the plan?” It sounds weird and you know you wouldn’t do that, but that’s exactly what happens sometimes when someone joins a new opportunity and they’re so excited about it that they can’t contain their enthusiasm.  But, you MUST CONTAIN YOUR ENTHUSIASM and let your conversations flow naturally.

Use the FORM method (Family, Occupation, Recreation, Money) instead. It works really well if you’re not a natural at starting and maintaining a conversation. Just ask people about themselves…people love to talk about themselves.

The same is true on Facebook (or any other social media platform). I did this evergreen video 2 years ago but it’s always going to be true. Watch and take notes…

The second thing I’d like to discuss is attraction marketing. A lot of people are talking about it online these days and it’s the only way to really become the hunted rather than the hunter! Attraction marketing is defined as the act of putting value out into the marketplace. When your customers and prospects see you as an authority, they’ll be inclined to buy from you when they’re ready.  Why do you need attraction marketing anyway? It leads to being able to brand yourself and not the company that you’re representing.

The internet has made finding people who are interested in what you’re offering very easy, but it’s also made it very difficult.  Let me explain…because of the internet, your prospects can search for anything about your company and use the information they find out, to your advantage or against you. Let’s say they find a bad review on the company (they’re out there…trust me! Just Google your company name and see for yourself). On the other hand, let’s say they find good stuff about your company but then they find another rep who has more experience and has been posting great value for awhile, so your prospect decides to sign up with them instead of you. Ouch! If you’re the one putting value out there, there’s less of a chance of your prospects going elsewhere.

What, exactly, qualifies as value? That depends on your niche. If you’re in the health & wellness niche, post videos of you working out and being healthy, for example. If you’re in the home business niche, post tips on how to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or whichever is your favorite platform to generate leads.  Never put a direct link to your products in your posts. This means you need to really know your niche market well. You need to know who you’re talking to, what their pains are, what problems they’re having, what makes them tick. Then, you can offer them a solution to their problem. See how that works?

The more value you put out, the better. And, consistency is important. Put valuable content out on your chosen social media platform every day. If you don’t have time to post every day, there are scheduling tools (Facebook itself, Hootsuite, Post Planner) that you can use to schedule them out over whatever period of time you choose.  The idea is to make a name for yourself on the internet in a big way. You want people to know who you are and to be the first person they think of when they need what you have to offer.
